PART I - INTRODUCTION TO DELIVERANCE

I. DEFINITION

Restoring to the believer what was stolen by Satan, which the blood of Jesus already purchased. It means to be set free from demonic oppressions, suppressions or possessions. The word “to deliver” has its root meaning from the word sozo (Greek) which means to save.

The word to be saved as in John 3:17 and in Acts 2:21 has its root meaning from the same word sozo. The Greek noun for salvation is sorteria (Luke 19:9 and Acts 4:12) and it means rescue or safety, deliverance, health, save, saving or defense. Therefore, deliverance is part of our salvation.

It is part of the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on Calvary's cross.

Definition

Deliverance is a healing and restoration ministry of the Holy Spirit.

1ST MEMORY VERSE:

“And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Acts 2:21

Sozo also means to protect, to heal, to preserve, to save (self), to do well and to be (make) whole.

II. FOCUS

This study is not demonology – the study of demonic activities. It is Deliverance. The casting out of demons and the repossession of our liberty and freedom in Christ Jesus. It is “setting the captives free” in the Name of Jesus. Deliverance is not an “escape conduit”

for the crucifixion of the flesh (1 Corinthians 9:27).

III. SCRIPTURAL BACKGROUND

A. JOEL’S PROPHECY (Joel 2:25-26)

“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.”

“And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.”

B. ABOUT THE LORD JESUS (Luke 4:18; Isaiah 61:3,1-7)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.” Luke 4:18

“…to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness…” Isaiah 61:3b

C. FINALLY ABOUT THE MINISTRY OF JESUS (Acts 10:38)

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

A combination of all these scriptures will give you an idea of definition and usefulness of deliverance. Jesus, walking under the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit, healed all that were oppressed of the devil! That’s DELIVERANCE MINISTRY “par excellence!” Praise the Lord forevermore!

IV. HOW DO I KNOW I NEED DELIVERANCE?

WHEN THERE IS proven presence or proven manifestation of persistent or repeated or recurring and uncontrollable (or irresistible) habits, sin, ill occurrences or events, in the life of an individual, family, ethnic entity, government or corporate organization. The key words include:

The Bible declares in John 10:10...

“The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I come so that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

PART II - THE FALL OF SATAN

I. THE FALL OF SATAN AND THE ORIGIN OF DEMONS

11TH MEMORY VERSE:

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” John 8:44

We also have another reference to the fall of Satan in Ezekiel 28:11-19:

“Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.”

LET’S REVIEW LUCIFER’S STATUS WITH GOD BEFORE HIS FALL

 Full measure and pattern of exactness – giving the finishing touch to all that constitutes completeness. Ezekiel 28:13 (Amplified)

 “You were the model of perfection” (NIV)

 His covering was of precious stones. Ezekiel 28:13

 He was anointed with instruments of music. Ezekiel 28:13

 He was anointed and was called the anointed cherub that covers. Ezekiel 28:14

 He was upon the holy mountain of God and walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Ezekiel 28:14 e.g. Exodus 24:10 (Amplified)

 His settings, sockets and engravings were wrought in gold. Ezekiel 28:13

 He was perfect in his ways till iniquity was found in him. Ezekiel 28:15

 He was created not born. Ezekiel 28:15 All these point to one deduction, Satan was an epitome of beauty and authority.

B. WHO WAS THE KING OF TYRUS IN EZEKIEL 28:12?

Earthly king? Heavenly being? Both (Double reference)? Question: From our context of Ezekiel 28:11-19, give reason to support your choice of answer.

 The earthly king of Tyre (Tyrus) was Ithobalas II.

 The supernatural king of Tyre was Satan.

 Satan’s rule of tyranny through a physical being is typified here, but…

1. Every human being (except Adam and Eve) is born, not created. The being referred to in this passage (Ezekiel 28:11-19) is created. Ezekiel 28:15

WHO WAS THE KING OF TYRUS IN EZEKIEL 28:12?

2. He was called a cherub: a cherub (plural: cherubim) is a winged angelic being, often associated with worship and praise of God (Nelson’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary). Ezekiel 1:5,10; Isaiah 6:2-3; Genesis 3:24; Exodus 26:1. In some ways, the cherubim was similar to the seraphim, another form of angelic being mentioned in the Bible. “Both are winged beings, and both surrounded God on His throne” (Nelson’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary). The difference between the two beings is that the seraphim's are more vocal in their praise (Isaiah 6:3). The cherubim's are more quiet and restrained in worship.

3. Adam and Eve were created perfect by God. The only two humans that ever lived at Eden, the garden of God were Adam and Eve. (Genesis 3; II Corinthians 11:3) There was never any earthly king of Tyre in the Garden of Eden.

WHO WAS THE KING OF TYRUS IN EZEKIEL 28:12?

4. Adam and Eve were created perfect by God before their fall. The Lord Jesus Christ was also GOD-man, perfect in His earthly ministry. The only other creatures created perfect by God are the angelic beings. The king of Tyre was never perfect. Question: Can you find other proofs? This dual reference pattern in the scriptures is called the “Principle of double reference” i.e. king of Tyre (earthly) and Satan (supernatural) – Refer Daniel 10:12-14

C. NAMES/TITLES OF SATAN

The following names/titles of Satan help us to know him better so we can deal appropriate blows to his kingdom as the needs arise in the Name of Jesus.

NAMES/TITLES OF SATAN

1. Satan – adversary. The great opposer or adversary of God and man. I Peter 5:8; I Timothy 5:14

2. The devil – slanderer or false accuser, false witness, malicious accuser. John 8:44

3. The tempter. I Thessalonians 3:5

4. Beelzebub – dung god. Matthew 12:24

5. The wicked one – Matthew 13:19, 38

6. The ruler of this world – John 12:31

7. The god of this age – II Corinthians 4:4

8. The prince of the power of the air – works rebellion or disobedience. Ephesians 2:2

9. The accuser of our brethren – Revelation 12:10; Zechariah 3

10. Lucifer – morning star. The Latin name for the planet Venus. The word

“Lucifer” occurs only once in the Bible (Isaiah 14:12) commonly used in astrology and witchcraft.

11. Wicked or evil one – Matthew 6:13, 13:19 (NIV & ASV); Matthew 13:38 (NIV); I John 2:13

12. Belial – Worthlessness - Nahum 1:15; II Corinthians 6:15 Belial is an Old Testament term designating a person as godless or lawless. 18

D. THE ORIGIN OF DEMONS

1. DEFINITION

Another name for fallen angels who joined the kingdom of Satan in rebellion against God. From the Greek: demons = evil spirits or devils

DEFINITION

 The origin of demons is not very clearly discussed in the scriptures

 The Bible speaks of fallen angels, also called demons. I Peter 3:29-30; II Peter 2:4; Jude 6-7

 Some of these fallen angels (demons) are already bound in hell. I Peter 3:19-20; II Peter 2:4; Jude 6-7

 Some Bible teachers believe that the reason some of these fallen angels have already been bound in hell is that they desecrated God’s creation in Genesis 6:1-4; Jude 6-7

 The unimprisoned demons who did not partake of this desecration are still here on earth working with Satan.

 The consequence of this desecration of the human race was Noah’s flood.

II. CONCLUSION

Satan fell before the creation of the first man and woman (Adam and Eve). He fell along with the other angels in rebellion to God. He came to the garden of Eden to cause man to also fall and rebel against God. God gave a prophecy to man that his seed, the Lord Jesus Christ, will bruise the head of the serpent. (Genesis 3:15)

Thank God that prophecy is fulfilled!! Praise God for our redemption in Christ Jesus. Praise God for our victory over the devil (I John 5:4; 4:4).

PART III -THE FALL OF MAN

12TH MEMORY VERSE:

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Romans 3:23

“And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of they life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

THE FALL OF MAN

Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” Genesis 3:14-21

THE FALL OF MAN

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”

Romans 5:12

Therefore, every man, because of the fall of the first man (Adam – also generic for mankind, humanity) inherited the original sin and the consequences called the curse of the law.

B. THE SEED OF THE WOMAN

After this fall of man, God promised that the seed of the woman will bring back the lost glory.

• “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed; it shalt bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” Genesis 3:15

• “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” Matthew 28:18

• “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Luke 10:19

THE SEED OF THE WOMAN

This seed of the woman is our Lord Jesus Christ. Praise God forevermore. The Bible declares in Colossians 2:14-15:

“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”

C. SPIRITUAL INTERVENTIONS

Just like the Lord Jesus Christ took the place of humanity and overcame the enemy on our behalf, you and I need to stand in the gap for our families and loved ones to break the powers of generational curses over their lives.

THE SEED OF THE WOMAN

“And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” Ezekiel 22:30

“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28

John the Baptist also spoke this about Jesus,

“…Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

John 1:29b Finally, the Bible declares in Galatians 3:13-14, that Christ has delivered us from the curse of the law.

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” 27

D. WHAT TO DO

A gift though made out in your name is not yet your physical possession until you appropriate it, claim it or reach out to receive it. You can deliver your family and loved ones by standing in the gap and breaking generational curses over them (See what Abraham did for Sodom and Gomorrah – Genesis 18:16-33).

Also, stand in the gap against territorial spirits to deliver the land or your land of curses so the inhabitants can be free (Ezekiel 22:30-31). You may also seek deliverance for yourself or your family by asking a man or woman of God called to the deliverance Ministry to break those generational curses in the Name of Jesus.
